Blue Moon

Tonight I think of you
Coax you out of the crevice
Of well-hidden memories
It is summer again
And the sky is forget-me-not blue
The clouds seem to meander
From here to there with quiet ease
Your eyes, your nose, your hair
Form a familiar sight
To make my heart sing
And your smile, oh how your smile
Makes me weak in the knees
And your hand is in my hair
And your kiss is like butterfly wings
On my slightly trembling lips
We drown out the sound of crickets
All the words we want to say
Dissolve into a hundred ellipses
I remember them all as vividly
As I can make out the stars in the distance
But I have no way of knowing then
That I cannot hold on to promises
Uttered in a moment of bliss
