You Were Gone Too Soon

You were gone too soon
Like a fleeting kiss of summer
When trees start to bloom
And there are flowers everywhere
You gifted us a moment
Of pure bliss and innocence

You were gone too soon
And with you a piece of our heart
How can we wake up in the morning
Knowing that you never will?
How can we look at the sunrise
Without remembering your smile?

You were gone too soon
A finality our tears cannot undo
Alone yet undaunted, you ventured
Into the murky unknown
Where no mortal has ever treaded
A world beyond our grasp

Do you know we love you so?
And now we will miss you
Everyday, every single day
But we will find comfort in knowing
That everytime we search the night sky
You are already one of the dazzling stars

Note: This was written for my little cousin who passed away on the 24th of August 2015.

  1. Oh, my dear, I am so sorry. Wherever he is, I’m sure your loving words have reached him. There are no barriers that love cannot defeat.

    1. “There are no barriers that love cannot defeat.”

Thank you for the comforting words. As what one poem says, “We shall meet again; you are only sleeping.”

  2. you made me read one blog and another blog until I found this. It touched my heart, you made me feel what you were feeling while writing this. You are just so wonderful and inspiring 🙂

    1. I draw from the pain within. I believe it is a fitting tribute to someone I hold very dear. I watched him grew up, you see. He is a brother I never have. Thank you for your beautiful words. Warms my heart. ❤

      1. It is. Sometimes you just wake up and hope that everything was only a dream. There’s a part of you that can never let go. You still believe that they are there, that you can see them and touch them and hold them close to your heart. And then you realize that they are never coming back. It hurts.

      2. I know, I remember the feeling when my uncle just died. I was 9 yrs old then. He was so close to me, and loosing him wasn’t really easy to accept. I know the pain Mitch, I feel it. But, just remember that your dearest cousin is with Jesus Christ now and is very much free from pain. And know that time heals even the worst pains. 🙂

      3. You are very much welcome Mitch. I’m sincerely hoping for your happiness. And remember, God won’t let you feel the pain alone. So when you feel the pain again just close your eyes and seek God, He will be there to comfort you 🙂

    1. You are right. And I will. The wounds will heal in time, that’s what I keep telling myself. Thank you for dropping by and for offering comforting words. ❤

  3. Hey Mitch. I understand how you feel. I remember telling myself when my sister died at 10 – i was 13 then; ‘if life is so short, I better make the best of it.’
I’l pray for your cousin and for your family. Have a great day.

    1. I’m sorry about your sister. It must be devastating. You’re right. Life is too short and we have to make the best out of it. We can never be too certain of tomorrows. Thank you. Your words are comfort. ❤

  4. This was a gentle punch to the stomach – so moving and it brought a certain stillness to me. Beautiful. I am so sorry for your loss. Two people very close to em passed away in the past two years, both ‘gone too soon’ at only 13 and early 40s, so this spoke to my heart.

  5. So melancholic…you brought out your empathy and the sad tone through brilliance and witty prose…so sorry for your loss
